In marketing, affiliate marketing is a performance-based strategy where businesses. partner with individuals or other businesses (called "affiliates" or "publishers") to promote their products or services. Affiliates earn a commission for driving traffic or generating sales for the merchant through their marketing efforts, such as blogs, websites, or social media platforms.

Affiliates are usually publishers (owners of web sites or mobile applications), media buyers, or ad networks. Affiliates are sometimes also called partners, publishers and external marketers.
